Wow - Keepers was down an entire day! We hope you all found the will to live!! We had a catastrophic hardware failure (both disks in our main mirror died within hours of each other) They were IBM 'DeathStars' so go figure. Anyway, since our mirror was completely trashed, we had to build the system up from scratch (on new Seagate's - we learned our lesson!), so we decided to upgrade the OS while we were at it which extended our recovery time a bit, but it was worth it. No data was lost, so your list items are safe! Thanks for your patience.
Believe it or not, there was good news today - our internet link got a significant bandwidth boost today so your list browsing should go much faster!

Keepers is XHTML 1.0 Compliant! We've worked for weeks to update our code
to ensure our HTML is XHTML 1.0 compliant. By doing so, we hope to ensure users of all standards compliant browsers will
be able to view our site the way it was intended to be seen. Feel free to check our work yourself.
Note we do NOT include a referal check link since this causes errors if you are logged in and it cannot validate pages for
logged in users. The best way to check our site is to save the source (IE Users - not IE does not save raw source - it
generates its OWN HTML source!!) and check it using W3C's upload capability. If you find a page that is not compliant, send
us the following at webmaster@keepersoflists.org:
The URL that failed
Were you logged in?
Attach the HTML source file you used
What XHTML validator did you use? (provide URL)
We'll look into it and fix anything we might have missed

Finally - by popular demand! Members now can view their account statistics. See how many items and lists you've submitted and the voting you've received as well as the votes you've placed. Just go to the MyLists Section!

Keepers now supports the new Site Navigation Bar in Mozilla.
This neat feature (which has been in Lynx forever and will likely
appear in other browsers soon) creates a custom navigation toolbar under the main navigation bar allowing you to easily
browse through the site. If you have Mozilla 0.9.5 or later, goto the View Menu, Show/Hide, Site Navigation Bar and select
"Show Only As Needed" Note the functionality of the forward and backward buttons changes depending on the page you are viewing.

You can now add items to lists that have been accepted/scheduled but have not yet been published!

The Outage: Starting sometime late in the evening of July 3rd, we
started to experieince severe problems with our Internet connection. Data could
be downloaded just fine, but data being sent out was extremely intermittent and
very slow. Our ISP spent a few days working the issue (the July 4th holiday
delayed things a bit) until it was finally resolved. It turned out to be a
configuration issue on their end, but they didn't realize it till after they had
swapped out all the hardware on our end and their end - bonus! So our link is
now running over all new hardware and the issue has been resolved. We apologize
for the interruption and are taking steps to prevent it from happening in the
future. Thanks for your patience and not submitting us to f**kedcompany.com!!
We're still alive and kicking!!

You can now view the moderation status of your items in the My Lists section.
June 19th, 2001
We now have a Hall Of Fame page which lists top lists, items, authors, and more! See if you're there...
When we designed this site, we had hoped that users would exercise restraint when adding items to
lists and the few bad items that did get added would be voted down by other users. However, as some
users have shown, a list can be totaly overwhelmed by pointless items that have absolutely no bearing
to the list topic. This can easily ruin a list.
Effective immediately, we have implemented moderation on list items submitted by all Apostles. When you add an item
to a list, it will enter a pending state where it must be reviewed before it becomes visible to others. Items that
are accepted will appear normally in the lists. Note we are NOT doing this to decide what items are funny
(in our view). We fully expect to approve items which we don't find funny since others might. However, items which
have absolutely no bearing to their list or that are overly offensive will probably be rejected.
We apologize for having to do this, but the recent actions of a group of users has forced our hand. We hope you understand.

Due to a 'feature' in the code we used to import the Ancient Lists
into our database, only 99 items per list were imported, even for lists with more than 99 items.
We've fixed the 'feature' and reimported the ancient lists so some lists now have many more items.

EMail your favorite lists to your friends! Anytime you come across a list you
think your friends would enjoy, just click 'Email This List' under the
list title. Enter your name & email address as well as the email addresses you
wish to send the list to. You can enter an optional message as well. Click Send
and the list will be sent to your friends. We do not store the email
addresses you send email to on our servers! However, for your convenience,
we do store them in a cookie on your browser. This way the next time you send a
list, you can choose from any email address you've sent to before. Since they
live on your computer there is no way for us to use them (which we'd never do
anyway - see our privacy policy)

You can now rank lists on a scale from 1 to 10. Simply rank the list from 1 to 10, 10 being best. After we've collected ranking info for a while,
you will be allowed to view lists sorted by rank (as well as date and alphabetically)
Submitted list titles and items are now checked against a set of filters to ensure the submission is valid. Things like too many symbolic characters,
HTML tags, ASCII art, etc will trip the filters. If this happens you will be prompted to modify your item for resubmission. We plan to add a spell check
to this code soon.

Keepers will now indicate which lists have had items recently added to them. If you see 'Updated' next to a list title,
the list has had an item added in the past day. That item will be highlighted with 'New Item' to the right when you view the list. Registered users can
change the # of days Keepers consideres items to be 'new'. So if you only visit keepers once every 3 days, go to your profile
and tell Keepers to highlight lists with items added in the past 3 days or however long you like up to 99 days.

Our database is now being replicated to a new 1GHz AMD Athlon Server. All queries are now being routed to this machine so you should notice the site responding faster.
